The Taurus PT99 represents a semi-automatic pistol, introduced by Taurus in the mid 1980's. As the Taurus purchased the Beretta factory in Brazil (1980), the final design of the Taurus 92 and the Taurus PT99 were influenced and improved by the Beretta design ("lock, stock and barrel"). The Taurus PT99 has undergone many revisions in design; early models did not feature the third safety de-cocker position (now it is standard), which was added in the second-generation of the models in the 90's also including the three-dot sights and the third generation brought a changed grip and slide design. The Taurus PT99 is mechanically and visually very similar to the Beretta 92 model. The pistol is chambered for 9 mm, with a barrel length of 5" and an overall length of 8-1/2". The frame of the pistol is made of stainless steel with a polished finish. Most notable feature of the pistol is specially designed drop hammer forged alloy frame, which will not rupture or enable the slide to come off. Further innovations feature a three-position frame built-in ambidextrous safety that enables for a classic Single action "cocked-and-locked" mode or a Double action de-cocking lever. Other several features include a firing pin block, hammer de-cocker and manual safety. The pistol contains fixed-1 Dot front sight and micrometer adjustable rear sight. Grip of the pistol is typically made of a checkered rubber. There were more variants of the model introduced such as the PTPT99 and the PTPT99AF. The PTPT99 model contains blued or satin nickel finish with hardwood or plastic grips and adjustable rear sights. This model is compatible with the PT92 magazines. The PTPT99AF has also blued or satin nickel finish with hardwood or plastic grips and lightweight Alloy frame. A barrel length is 4,75", adjustable rear sight and is compatible with the PT92 magazines. Production of this model was discontinued.
