Forjas Taurus, simply known as Taurus, is a Brazilean firearms conglomerate based in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul. Founded in 1939 as a tool and die forging plant, the company now consists of Taurus Armas, its firearms developing division, as well as other divisions focusing on metals manufacturing, plastics, body armors, helmets and civil construction. When it comes to firearms, Taurus produces the following - semi-automatic pistols, revolvers, sub-machine guns, and rifles. The company also includes its US subsidiary called Taurus USA.
Taurus is one of the world’s most popular producers of revolvers. Their revolvers come in a variety of sizes, built on either a small, compact, medium, or large frame. When it comes to small framed revolvers, the most popular one is the Taurus Model 85. This revolver developed by the Brazilean manufacturer has recently become one of the most popular concealed carry handguns across the United States. Taurus is also widely popular thanks to its selection of big revolvers. The most significant among these is without a doubt the Taurus Raging Bull family of revolvers. These revolvers are available even in all sorts of barrel lengths, including an immensely big 10 inch long barrel version. Some of these are chambered in the .454 Casull cartridge, which is utilized mainly for hunting of animals as large as Cape Buffalo.
Taurus also offers their own line of custom M1911 pistols, marketed as Taurus PT1911. This series of pistols was first announced at the 2005 SHOT Show and it was released to the consumer market in the fall of 2005. The PT1911 line differs from its many competitors in that the basic model offers a package of features found on top-end models from more expensive semi-custom pistol manufacturers such as Springfield Armory, Para-Ordnance, and Kimber Manufacturing at a significantly lower cost. Another popular series of Taurus semi-auto pistols is the Taurus PT92. This series includes pistols inspired by the design of the famous Beretta 92.
