Taurus has been manufacturing the Model 66 in .357 Magnum caliber since 1978, when it was 6 shot revolver with a micrometer sight. It was available in barrel lengths 76, 102 and 152 mm (3, 4 and 6 in). This double-action revolver has blued and mat nickel -plated versions. The cylinder locks at the tip of the ejector bar and at the recoil shield at the back. The total lengths of the old model are 213, 238 and 289 mm (8 ½, 9 ½ and 11 ½ in) respectively. This weapon weighs 950, 990 or 1090g. In 1993, Taurus also introduced the Model 66 with a barrel length of 64 mm (2 ½ in). This revolver is very similar to the Smith &Wesson Model 19, but for the fact that the S&W has a fixed firing pin point and a blocking bar safety. The Taurus 66 has a separate spring-loaded firing pin in the frame and transfer bar safety. In the same period, Taurus produced the same model with a fixed sight groove in the top bridge above the cylinder. This model is known as Model 65, and is still in production. In 1997, Taurus introduced a new model 66. This model has a 7-shot cylinder and is available with a 102 or 152 mm (4 or 6 in) barrel. The total length is 267 or 311 mm (10 ½ or 12 ¼) and it weighs 1077 or 1134g. Taurus manufactures this new type in blued, a stainless steel or a polished stainless steel version.
