At the German IWA firearms trade exhibition in 1992, Taurus introduced a new type of revolver in .44Magnum caliber. This was the model 44CP, in barrel lengths 102mm (4 in), 165 mm (6 ½ in) and 213mm (8 ½ in) and in a blued or stainless steel version. The addition of 'CP' means that this revolver is provided with compensator ports on both sides of the front sight. Since 1995, this weapon has been available in .357 Magnum caliber with the model name 608B for the blued and 608SS for the stainless steel version. These 8-shot versions do not have a built-in compensator. The 102 mm (4 in) barrel has a solid high barrel rib, however in the longer barrel lengths this rib is provided with ventilator ports. The total length of the Model 608 is 238, 295 or 349 mm (9 ¼, 11 ½ or 13 ¾ in). This weapon weighs 1247, 1446 or 1588g. The Model 608 also has a transfer bar safety and since 1998 a built-in safety lock. The cylinder locks at the tip of the ejector bar. This weapon also has a micrometer sight and a black rubber grip.
